Graduate Education

The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics provides an exciting, nurturing, and collegial atmosphere in which to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD degree in preparation for a career in research and biomedical education. Graduates go on to careers in basic, medical or industrial research and teaching. The program emphasizes research and students rotate through several laboratories during their first year. At the end of this year, a thesis advisor is chosen and dissertation research commences. Students take courses in molecular and cellular genetics, biochemistry and microbial pathogenesis, and cancer immunology. Students normally enter the program after completing a bachelor's degree and fulfilling the prerequisites of the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies(Newark Health Sciences Campus). All full-time students receive a stipend and tuition waiver. For more information on applying to the MBMG PhD program, please contact:
