Professor and Chair

Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. We are a group of biomedical researchers striving to understand the molecular underpinnings of human development, genetics and disease. The department is located in Newark’s Science Park, a consortium of schools and institutes that include components of New Jersey Medical School, The Public Health Research Institute, The Global Tuberculosis Institute, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University-Newark and Science Park High School. Our goal is to provide the cornerstone for basic sciences in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics, microbial pathogenesis and structural biology.

Department scientists include National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and private foundation investigators working in multiple areas of biomedical science. We provide an optimal research and educational environment for PhD, Master’s, MD/PHD and MD students in our "open laboratory" design, weekly seminar series, collaborative projects, and dynamic interactions with both clinical and basic science components of the medical school. As an integral part of Rutgers University, we actively collaborate with experts in community and behavioral health, environmental sciences and chemistry.
