These interactive courses are devoted to understanding organ function with an emphasis on integrating recent advances in molecular and cellular biology to system physiology and pathophysiology. The class environment is designed to be flexible with a combination of lectures, discussions and presentations.
The spring semester begins with a presentation of general physical principles that are responsible for processes underlying organ physiology. The remainder of the semester focuses on cardiovascular system function (heart, vasculature, kidney and lungs). The fall semester covers integrated physiology of the nervous, endocrine and gastrointestinal systems.
Evaluation is by examinations, class presentations, class participation and a research paper.
