This course is designed for Ph.D. students in the I3 track. In this course, selected topics will be explored at an advanced level. The class is divided into a lecture and a discussion part. The faculty present a lecture prepared from literature in the first half and two papers relevant to the lecture are discussed by the students in the second half. The goal is to explore a topic in depth from both the viewpoint of the pathogen and the host. The following topics will be covered in this course: i) Biofilms; ii) Innate Immunity; iii) Memory Immunity; iv) Viral persistence, latency and reactivation; and v) Drug Design, Computational and Systems Biology, and Bioinformatics. At the end of each module the students will be given a Take-Home exam.
