Introduction to Biomedical Sciences (CORE) – GSND 5200Q

This 6-credit course is mandatory for first year Ph.D. students. Master’s students may take it with permission.

The IBMS course is broadly based and taught by faculty from most NJMS departments. To establish a foundation for advanced courses and for biomedical research, it reviews basic concepts of molecular and cellular biology that are fundamental to all our graduate tracks, Principles of the scientific method are emphasized.

Structure

> Three lecture- and discussion-based modules: Molecules & Energy, Information Transfer, and Cell Biology
> An interactive Principles of Research module (PR)

Details

> Lectures and other activities are live and in-person
> Timing: most MWF mornings and Tuesdays 1:15-3:00 pm from Aug. 7 – Dec. 15
> Evaluation: Pass/Fail, with multiple-choice quizzes and scored PR activities  
> Reviews: Q&A and discussion sessions with TA and faculty
