Masters Rotation FAQs

1.      How do I find a rotation mentor?

Here are a number of ideas

Attend the fall faculty poster day
Email professors in your classes
Review the PhD track faculty interests, found here: https://njms.rutgers.edu/sgs/prospective_students/multidisciplinary_phd.php
Often students need to email ~ 30 faculty members before finding the right fit
There is no “list” of available opportunities. This is because it is constantly changing! Ask your Track Director if they have good ideas.

2.      Is this a class in the traditional sense? What are the days and hours?

No, this is not a class in the traditional sense. It is a research experience in a lab or clinic. Days and times are variable depending on the lab and/or clinic. You will work with the mentor to decide.

3.      Is there paperwork that needs to be approved before I start?

As long as you are working with an NJMS or RSDM FACULTY MEMBER, no further approval is required.
If you wish to work with someone at another location you MUST HAVE IT APPROVED FIRST BY DR LUTZ

4.      Once I have completed my 60 hours (or more) how do I prepare my report?

Please note that ~ 5 pages is a minimum for the report. Longer reports are also acceptable.
Please also note: I recommend that students send their report to their mentors at least a week prior to the deadline for their feedback.

5.      If I have registered for the rotation in a previous semester, but did not yet complete it, do I need to register for it again?

No need to re-register. It will be listed as in progress until it is completed.

6.      I need more information. What should I do?

First review the canvas course and the course webpage and all text, tabs, and videos

It is available 24/7 and will answer 99.99% of your questions. Ask Dr. Lutz if you have any questions that are not covered in one of these resources, but check them all please FIRST.
