Biomedical Informatics and Health AI (BMAI)

Biomedical Informatics and Health AI (BMAI) track integrates mathematical and computational principles from data science, informatics, and artificial intelligence with biomedical sciences to advance frontiers of precision medicine, digital health, and translational research and science. The BMAI PhD track combines the strengths of the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies at the Newark Health Science Campus with state-of-the-art courses at the School of Health Professions (SHP) and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT, Department of Data Science) to meet the growing needs for biomedical data scientists at the cutting edges of technology and innovation. The BMIA Track emphasizes practical preparation for scientific careers in both academia and industry. Research faculty interests include (but are not limited to) diverse areas of:

* Precision medicine
* Translational Research
* AI in Multi-omics
* AI in Multi-media
* AI in Rehabilitation
* Digital health
* Mobile health
* Sensor-based research
* Imaging and Image Processing

* Digital robotics
* Digital twins
* Large Language Models
* Electronic Health Records
* Brain health
* Cancer and Infectious diseases
* Microbiome
* Drug Design
* Machine learning for Health Applications

Prior to applying to this program, applicants should have taken courses in (1) programming language/s, (2) programming in Linux, (3) Calculus I, (4) probability and statistics (or discrete mathematics), and (5) data structures and algorithms design.
