Department of Radiation Oncology
The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Radiation Oncology Department is part of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. All faculty members in Newark have appointments at both Robert Wood Johnson and New Jersey Medical Schools and serve patients in both Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey. At our Newark location, approximately 300 patients with cancer are treated each year. Many of these patients receive curative radiation therapy as either the primary treatment modality, or as an adjuvant therapy after surgical resection. Other patients with metastatic cancer may receive palliative radiation therapy to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Throughout our healthcare system, we offer high quality radiation therapy treatments including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), proton therapy, and high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.
