Lung / Thoracic Center

Lung cancer is often aggressive, and is the most common cause of cancer-related death in the United States. For this reason, treatment of lung cancer most often involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or immunotherapy. Radiation is effective not only for curing lung cancer, but also for alleviating symptoms in patients whose cancer has already spread outside of the lung. Depending on the type of cancer and its stage at diagnosis, external beam radiation therapy may be delivered as a daily treatment over 3-7 weeks. Chemotherapy is usually given at the same time as the external beam radiation therapy to make the cancer cells more sensitive to the radiation. We work closely with the medical oncology, thoracic surgery, and pulmonary medicine teams at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School to coordinate your care.
