Peer Support Program

We’re excited to introduce a new initiative available to all students at NJMS designed to support your emotional well-being and strengthen our student community — the NJMS Peer Support Program.
Medical school is a rewarding journey, but it can also be intense and isolating at times. This program was developed to:

Foster a stronger sense of belonging,
Provide a safe space for emotional support and stress release, and
Encourage overall wellness and professional fulfillment.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by coursework, navigating a personal challenge, experiencing self-doubt or imposter syndrome, or simply needing to talk to someone who understands — this program is here for you. Sometimes, just having a conversation with a peer who “gets it” can make all the difference.
You might find it helpful to reach out if:

You're feeling isolated or disconnected,
You're stressed about exams or clinical transitions,
You’ve had a difficult interaction and want a safe space to talk it through,
Or you're just going through a tough week and need someone to listen.

Importantly, this is not an initiative to replace professional support services — rather, it is designed to augment the support already available to students. Peer supporters offer a unique perspective as fellow students who can listen, empathize, and walk alongside you through shared experiences.

Feel free to contact the peer supporters directly (click here) or email Mrs. Mercedes Padilla-Register at padillmn@njms.rutgers.edu to be paired.
