Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Program
Simulation Training
Our innovative simulation curriculum allows for fellows of any level to gain hands-on experience and proficiency in a variety of inpatient and outpatient procedures.
Our state of the art “Simulation Lab” mimics real life patient encounters and allows for residents to work autonomously, while being mentored and supervised in a controlled clinical environment. This type of unique, academic atmosphere grants learners a chance to receive tips and feedback on high-stress clinical scenarios while being in the safe space of the SimLab.
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School has a Clinical Skills Training center located on the Newark campus where fellows have opportunity to gain proficiency in imaging techniques for both transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms on simulation dummies.
Fellows also receive Peer to Peer mentoring from their senior fellows in placement of central lines, but also in cardiac catheterization sheath placement in a safe non-judgmental environment before they are involved in real patient experiences.
After an extensive didactic session on cardiac auscultation fellow also are tested on their auscultatory skills on our simulation mannequin. To also aid in gaining proficiency, fellows have access to the ACC Cardio source Heart Songs web-based education platform where they are instructed to further augment their physical exam skills.
In addition to our on campus resources, fellows will have throughout the year simulation session set up with industry to educate and augment their understanding of the various mechanical support devices utilized on the four campuses.
