Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology actively participates in the tripartite missions of the New Jersey Medical School. The faculty, including clinicians, clinician investigators and research scientists, all maintain a commitment to advance patient care, education and research. The Department comprises faculty that are dedicated to clinical radiology or basic science & translational research. Together, they form the critical mass necessary to support our ACGME accredited residency program in diagnostic radiology.

Clinical radiology comprises all the major modalities of contemporary diagnostic imaging. Our attending staff provide instruction and offer clinical services in gastrointestinal, genitourinary, chest, breast, bone, neurological, and nuclear medicine imaging. The Department is responsible for diagnostic imaging at University Hospital, the Doctors Office Center (DOC), our Advanced Imaging Facility which houses our PET/CT unit, and the East Orange VA. At our various sites we utilize the full panoply of diagnostic imaging devices in all modalities including biplane angiography and state-of-the-art breast imaging equipment. We also have an active interventional radiology program which develops and implements state-of-the-art techniques.

The Department is committed to undergraduate and graduate training in radiology and the radiological sciences, as well as the education of our colleagues in other specialties. Over the past decades, and most recently as well, our residents have successfully secured excellent fellowships and excel in private and academic practice. Some of our alumni can be found on our Alumni web page.

A majority of our faculty and residents are engaged in clinical investigations. The number of papers and presentations authored by our resident trainees ranks high in per capita output among all radiology training programs in the United States.

The Department of Radiology has a vigorous basic and translational research program within its Divisions of Radiation Research and Functional Imaging. Students and post-doctoral fellows have gone on to secure excellent positions in medicine, academia, government, and industry. Our faculty enjoy international reputations in their respective areas of focused research and they serve as members of the National Council on Radiation Protection (NCRP) and the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU).
