The Section of Allergy and Immunology provides comprehensive patient care and consultation regarding cases with both common and usual allergic/immunologic problems. This includes allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, anaphylaxis, urticaria, angioedema, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, chronic sinusitis, allergic fungal sinusitis, bee sting allergy, medication allergy, drug reactions, food allergy, mast cell disorders, and immunodeficiency. Staff members are expert in the treatment of patients of all ages as the specialty of Allergy and Immunology is the only program co-administered by both the American Boards of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. The section has particular research and clinical expertise in unusual and hard to manage cases with immunodeficiency, anaphylaxis, recalcitrant asthma, and reactions to drugs. Services provided include skin testing to aeroallergens, foods, and medications (including penicillin skin testing). Other service include spirometry, drug challenges/desensitization, food challenges, skin biopsies, rhinolaryngoscopy, and patch testing (for contact dermatitis).

 

The Section of Rheumatology provides a range of diagnostic and treatment services to patients with systemic rheumatic and autoimmune disorders. Diagnostic and treatment services are provided on both an inpatient and outpatient services for patients with vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis, Anca vasculitis, scleroderma and other forms of autoimmune disorders.
