Rutgers NJMS Rheumatologists are board certified specialists treating all rheumatologic conditions including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, gout, lupus, and vasculitis.   Patient care is coordinated with collaborating physicians with special expertise in orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pulmonary medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, kidney disease and others.

Faculty Profile

Dr. Berman trained in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Following training, he joined the faculty at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he also served as the fellowship training program director. In 2011, Dr. Berman was recruited to NJMS to be the Division Director of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Soon after, he started the first combined division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine / Allergy and Immunologic Diseases at NJMS.

Dr. Berman is the Past-President of the New Jersey Thoracic Society and lectures and serves on committees for the American College of Chest Physicians,the American Thoracic Society and the American Lung Association. Dr. Berman directs the Pulmonary Course for medical students at NJMS and has been recognized for his teaching with awards from NJMS and the New Jersey Health Foundation. He has been a visiting professor at the University KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and periodically works with Project Medishare in Port-au-Prince and the Central Plateau of Haiti. His research interests include health care disparities and clinical outcomes research. Dr. Berman sees patients in his office with a wide variety of lung diseases, and has a special interest in the management of patients with sarcoidosis, COPD, and advanced lung diseases.

Faculty Profile


Eugenio Capitle received his medical training at Manila Central University, Philippines. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center and then went on to complete a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at New Jersey Medical School, followed by additional fellowship training in Rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Capitle is a board-certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, and Rheumatology and he has been at NJMS since 2009. His clinical interests include: Asthma; autoimmune diseases of the skin, lung, nose and eyes; Rheumatoid arthritis; Systemic lupus; spondyloarthopathy; Inflammatory muscle diseases; Sjogren's Syndrome and Vasculitis.



Reena Khianey, MD

Dr. Reena Khianey received her medical training at Virginia Commonwealth University – Medical College of Virginia, Richmond VA.  She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College/NY Presbyterian Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at NJMS.  She then completed an additional fellowship in Rheumatology at Hospital for Special Surgery, NY.

Dr. Khianey is board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology and has been at NJMS since 2015 educating allergy and rheumatology fellows.  She is also treasurer of the NJ Rheumatology Association and the program director of the Rheumatology fellowship program at NJMS.  Her research interests include contraceptive care in woman with rheumatic disease and drug allergy management in acute inpatient hospital setting.

Dr. Shuwei Wang graduated from McGill University with a B.S in Neuroscience and received her medical training at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick NJ. She went on to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia followed by a fellowship in Rheumatology at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital. After working in private practice in New Jersey for two years, she joined the Veteran Administration New Jersey Health Care System in East Orange, NJ as Chief of Rheumatology.

Dr. Wang has a strong interest in medical education and regularly teach medical students, internal medicine residents, and rheumatology fellows. With additional interest in clinical research, she published original manuscripts in psoriasis as a predoctoral clinical research fellow at University of Pennsylvania and conducted lupus nephritis research during fellowship. Dr. Wang sees a wide variety of patients at the VA including rheumatoid arthritis, spondylarthritis, lupus, polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis.

Dr. Malhotra received her Rheumatology training in Providence, Rhode Island covering three hospitals, Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center and Brown University/ Rhode Island Hospital. She completed my Internal medicine training and Masters of Public health from St Vincent hospital and University of Massachusetts respectively.

Dr. Malhotra’s Clinical interests include General Rheumatology and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Her research interests include the field of epidemiology of Rheumatic diseases. She is trained and has experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Spondyloarthropathy, Crystal arthropathies - gout/pseudogout, Psoariatic arthritis etc), Systemic connective tissue diseases (Lupus, Scleroderma/ Raynauds disease, Sjogren's syndrome, myositis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Vasculitis etc), Musculoskeletal disease (Bursitis, Tendonitis, fibromyalgia) and Rheumatic diseases in pregnancy.

Todd P. Stitik MD, RMSK is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School. He is the Director of the Interventional Pain Management Fellowship Program and this subspecialty board-certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. Dr. Stitik utilizes musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic and interventional purposes on an extensive basis within his practice.
