Clinician Educator Track
Clinician Educator Track
Categorical Internal Medicine Program at Rutgers NJMS
The Clinician Educator Track provides additional structured teaching experience to select categorical Internal Medicine residents. The goal of this track is to expose residents to various aspects of teaching medicine as it applies to learners at multiple levels of training. Residents in this track participate in teaching activities that prepare them for academic careers, whether in General Internal Medicine or a medical subspecialty.
Curriculum
The curriculum spans the PGY-II and III years, consisting of a 2-year longitudinal didactic structure, practical exercises in teaching medical students and residents under direct observation by faculty, and structured mentorship. Residents are encouraged to engage in a research project applied to medical education. By graduation time, all track residents have built a teaching portfolio applied to medical education.
Our educator track residents receive education on specific topics pertaining to medical education, which include but are not limited to: adult learning theories and their application to medical education, bedside teaching in both inpatient and outpatient settings, feedback techniques, and “flipped classroom” and team-based learning methodology applied to medical education.
