What is an Otolaryngologist?

Otolaryngology is one of the oldest medical specialties in the United States. Otolaryngologists are physicians who are trained both medically and surgically to manage and treat patients with diseases in the ear, nose, and throat (ENT). They are able to treat patients with diseases of the nose and sinuses, larynx, oral cavity, pharynx, neck, and face. They can treat both children and adults.

Evelyne Kalyoussef. Dr. Kalyoussef is an academic general otolaryngologist, caring for adult and pediatric patients. She specializes in Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery, Transoral Robotic Surgery, Head and Neck Oncology, Sleep Disorders, Voice Disorders, minimally invasive surgery as well as a broad spectrum of pediatric otolaryngologic pathologies.

Laryngology

Rachel Kaye, MD Dr. Kaye specializes in all aspects of voice disorders and swallowing difficulties. She has a special interest in professional voice and we are very excited to have her clinical expertise. Her clinical expertise lies in the treatment of laryngeal disorders, especially those that affect voice, breathing, and swallowing. She has a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of vocal fold problems like cysts, polyps, nodules, scars, and performing voice issues as well as airway disorders such as tracheal stenosis, tracheomalacia, and laryngeal stenosis or scarring. She also enjoys treating throat/laryngeal cancers, swallowing disorders, and neurologic voice disorders including spasmodic dysphonia, tremor, and vocal fold paresis/paralysis.

Kenneth Yan, MD Dr. Yan’s expertise lies in the management of voice, airway and swallowing problems, including vocal cord paralysis, vocal cord lesions, subglottic stenosis, posterior glottic scar, Zenker's diverticula and post-surgical or post-radiation swallowing issues. In addition, Dr. Yan enjoys treating patients with spasmodic dysphonia and can offer surgical options to his patients such as the selective laryngeal adductor denervation-reinnervation (SLAD-R), which was pioneered by his mentor at UCLA. Dr. Yan is an MD/PhD who is highly published in peer-reviewed journals, with an interest in the upper airway microbiome and its relationship to early laryngeal cancer and airway stenosis.
