Newark

Newark was originally founded in 1666 by Connecticut Puritansled by Robert Treat from the New Haven Colony. During the Industrial Revolution, the city grew tremendously and is now the largest city (by population) in the U.S. state of New Jersey. One of the nation's major air, shipping, and rail hubs, the city had a population of 277,140 in 2010, making it the 67th most populous municipality.

Located in the heart of New Jersey's Gateway Region, Newark is the second largest city in theNew York metropolitan area. It is approximately 8 miles (13km) west of Manhattan. Port Newark, the major container shipping terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey, is the largest on the East Coast. Newark Liberty International Airport was the first municipal commercial airport in the United States and today one of its busiest.

Newark is headquarters to numerous corporations, such as Prudential Financial and PSEG. It is also home to several universities, including Rutgers–Newark, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Seton Hall University's Law School. Among others, its cultural and sports venues include: the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Prudential Center, and theBears & Eagles Riverfront Baseball Stadium.

Newark is divided into five geographical wards, and contains neighborhoods ranging in character from bustling urban districts to quiet suburban enclaves. Newark's Branch Brook Parkis the oldest county park in the United States and is home to the nation's largest collection of cherry blossom trees, which number about 4,300.

Northern New Jersey

Northern New Jersey has one of the most picturesque landscapes in all of the country. The Skylands Region in this part of the state has areas of rolling hills and mountains and contains two national parks at its edges, 60,000 acres (240 km²) of state parkland. The geography is diverse and filled with lakes, rivers and picturesque hills.

Northern New Jersey will also host Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium, which will be the first Super Bowl played in outdoors in a cold weather environment. It will also be the first time SuperBowl played outdoors on an artificial field and the first time two states (New Jersey and New York) will work together with hosting duties. New Jersey is home to the New York Jets and the New York Giants, which both play at MetLife Stadium. New Jersey is also home to the Devils (NHL), Red Bulls (MLS), and the Liberty (WNBA)
