OVERVIEW OF FELLOWSHIP
The Fellowship in Head & Neck Cancer Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is a one-year training program designed to provide otolaryngologists with advanced training in the medical and surgical management of head and neck cancers.

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION
Goals and Objectives for Training

  • To further develop the fellow’s surgical skills in advanced ablative techniques for primary and recurrent head and neck cancers
  • To train the fellow in the use of Transoral Robotic Surgery primarily utilizing the Intuitive da vinci SP robotic system.
  • To train the fellow in endoscopic and transoral techniques to treat early laryngeal and hypopharyngeal tumors and malignancies, including the use of lasers.  This includes both laser fiber delivery and micromanipulator delivery of laser energy.
  • To train the fellow in microvascular reconstruction (free flaps).  Here at Rutgers we perform >120 of these procedures annually.
  • To teach the fellow about multidisciplinary care.  We routinely discuss and enroll patients to national and international clinical trials.  Our fellow will gain exposure to these discussions.
