Grand Rounds and Conferences

Our department continues to be the premier academic institution in the state of New Jersey in the field of Otolaryngology. We have several conferences and meetings each and every week in order to stay up to date with the latest state of the art equipment and to review the most current literature in order to provide excellent clinical care in an evidenced based fashion.

Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Tumor Board Conference

The Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Tumor Board, a panel of physicians, nurses and therapists, meets weekly to discuss patient cases. Experts in surgical oncology and reconstruction, radiation oncology, medical oncology, neuro-radiology, pathology, and oral surgery, discuss each patient in order to come up with the best diagnostic and treatment plans. Head and neck cancers can be treateed with surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy or a combination thereof. Patients can be assured that all avenues of treatment options were discussed during this board meeting in order to provide them with the best possible care.

Quality Improvement (Morbidity and Mortality) Conference

This conference is held on a monthly basis, usually the last Wednesday of the month. Critical evaluation of the management of cases is emphasized during this conference. The Chief Resident presents all the cases and leads the discussion with input from attendings and other resdents. Cases with educational value that will improve the quality of care given within the department are presented.

Grand Rounds

This conference is held on a montly basis on Wednesdays. The topic and guest speaker are choosen by the faculty and speakers come from both regional and national Departments of Otolaryngology. Topics general include new and recent innovations in the field of Otolaryngology as well as comprehensive reviews of otolaryngologic topics. This conference is mandatory for all faculty and housestaff. This is a CME carrying event open to surrounding community otolaryngologists as well.

Journal Club

This is a faculty led discussion group with all the residents held once a month. Topics are generally picked by the residents and pertinent articles are choosen by the faculty. The articles are assigned to the residents for presentation during the next group session.

Mock Oral Board Review

Mock orals are given by the faculty to senior residents in their PGY-4 and PGY-5 years in preparation for the oral boards required for certification. Junior residents are also in attendence during the Mock Orals in order to get an idea of how the Oral Boards in Otolaryngology are conducted. This course is held twice a year.

Radiology Conference

Neuroradiologists as well as Head and Neck radiologists give presentations to residents twice a month on various topics within otolaryngology.
