Emergency Medicine Fellowship in Healthcare Operations & Quality

Introduction

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) offers a Fellowship in Healthcare Operations & Quality through our affiliation with University Hospital in Newark, a Level 1 Trauma Center with an Emergency Department volume of over 106,000 visits annually. The fellowship is directed by the Division of Operations, Quality and Informatics within the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Over two years, fellows train for leadership roles in academic medicine, healthcare administration, quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical informatics. The program combines graduate coursework with direct, hands-on administrative experience — fellows work alongside departmental and hospital leadership on real operational initiatives, committee work, and quality and safety projects, while also maintaining clinical practice and pursuing scholarly work.

Fellows draw on the full resources of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, University Hospital, and the Rutgers Faculty Practice throughout their training.
