Education

We are committed to educating future physicians:

• Medical Student Education: Our faculty teaches pediatric emergency medicine during both pediatric and emergency medicine clerkships and offers a dedicated PEM elective for students seeking advanced exposure. Students rotating through our PED gain hands-on experience under expert supervision.
• Resident Training: Emergency Medicine residents receive robust pediatric emergency care training through longitudinal simulation-based curricula, annual PEM workshops, and targeted pediatrics didactic sessions.

Scholarship & Community Engagement

Our division leads and participates in initiatives to improve pediatric emergency care, including simulation-based education, quality assurance/improvement projects, and operational medicine. Our team includes an EM Residency Assistant Program Director and the Assistant Medical Director of the PED, showing our commitment to education and clinical services.

We are committed to promoting child health and safety beyond the hospital walls. Through grant-funded projects based in our Pediatric Emergency Department, we engage with Newark-area families to address injury prevention, gun safety, and behavioral health initiatives. These efforts reflect our dedication to reducing health disparities and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Our faculty actively shape the future of the specialty through their involvement in professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). These contributions help develop educational resources, influence policy, and advance best practices in pediatric emergency care nationwide. Our overarching goal is to promote team-based pediatric emergency care and improve outcomes for children in our community.
