And that's where the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at The New Jersey Medical School/University Hospital Cancer Center can help. Out team is pleased to offer some of the best treatments for gynecologic cancers in this region. We are ready to work with you and your patients who might have a gynecologic malignancy or have a complicated gynecologic problem. We are honored to take care of women who are the “hearts of their families” and provide minimally invasive surgery with and integrative treatment approach.

Treatment options for cancer can be complex. The extent of the cancer, as well as a patient's ability to deal with the various side effects of cancer treatments must all be considered.

At The New Jersey Medical School/University Hospital Cancer Center, we specialize in a team approach. All patient cases are presented at a gynecological tumor board that is attended by the gynecologic oncology team. Other members on the team also include:

- Gynecologic pathologist

- Radiation oncologist

- Medical oncologist

- Nuclear medicine specialist

- Radiologist

- Other support specialists such a palliative care, crisis counseling, nutrition, complementarymedicine and case management.

Our physicians have extensive training and expertise that allows them to recommend the best possible cancer treatment, using care plans that are multidisciplinary in approach. Whether it be surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy, our goal is to develop the most appropriate treatment for your patients.

We are trained in complicated abdominal and pelvic surgery as well as advanced laparoscopic procedures. We can offer "fertility-sparing" options when appropriate and work closely with our world reknown division of reproductive endocrinology. We have the ability to offer patients the latest in chemotherapeutic and radiotherapeutic technologies. We can offer patients participation in national and institutionally sponsored clinical trials.

Bernadette Cracchiolo, MD, MPH, FACOG, FAHPM is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at University Hospital. She serves as the director of the Division of Gynecology Oncology. A tireless advocate for women's health issues, Dr. Cracchiolo received her medical degree from Chicago Medical School and her master's in public health from the University of Illinois. She completed her fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. She is also board certified as a palliative medicine and hospice care specialist. Her interests include advanced laparoscopic techniques and the treatment of ovarian and cervical cancer.

Jenna Marcus, MDis an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at University Hospital. Dr. Marcus received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at New York University in New York City, NY and her fellowship training in gynecological oncology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in the Bronx, NY.

She treats and cares for women with gynecologic cancers such as cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, vulva, vagina and those with gestational trophoblastic disease. In addition, she evaluates and treats patients with an increased genetic predisposition to cancer as well as patients with pelvic masses or those requiring complex pelvic surgery. Dr. Marcus is trained in the field of robotic and traditional minimally invasive surgery as well as extensive debulking procedures for advanced cancers. She also administers chemotherapy for the treatment of gynecologic malignancies and works with a radiation oncology team for women who require radiation therapy.

As assistant professor she is actively involved in the training of medical students and residents. Her research interests include clinical trials for the treatment of ovarian and uterine cancers, immunotherapy and rare uterine tumors. Dr. Marcus strives to minimize the physical and emotional suffering caused by a cancer diagnosis while pursuing an optimal treatment approach and maintaining quality of life for those with gynecologic malignancies. She is an active member in several professional societies including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
