Department of Surgery Kenneth G. Swan Award
Each year, the leadership in the Department of Surgery selects one graduating 4th year medical student who embodies the legacy of Dr. Kenneth G. Swan, a beloved member of the Department for over 40 years (1973-2014). Dr. Swan had a long and distinguished career as a surgeon, scientist, and most notably, an educator. While he held a national reputation as a trauma, thoracic and vascular surgeon, he is perhaps most remembered for his devotion to teaching and mentoring the future generations of physicians at New Jersey Medical School. In keeping with his memory, the selected student must have excelled in surgery and be someone who serves as a role model for their peers.
