Clinical Services

Outpatient clinical services in the Department of Psychiatry are provided for adults, children, and adolescents through the Department's Faculty Practice ambulatory care services.  Emergency, inpatient, and consultation liaison services are provided at University Hospital. 

Out-Patient Services: Department of Psychiatry faculty provide psychiatric services in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. Services are provided in the Behavioral Health Sciences Building located at 183 South Orange Avenue in Newark on the F-Level.

Emergency and Inpatient Services: University Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Services provides acute care services and stabilization in a six-bed psychiatric emergency services unit.  In coordination with the Screening Center, staffed by University Behavioral Health Care, psychiatric attending physicians determine the need for stabilization and hospitalization. Inpatient psychiatric services are provided at University Hospital on the 34-bed unit where multi-disciplinary teams provide a full range of psychiatric care.

Consultation Liaison Service: University Hospital Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Service provides consultative expertise to the medical and surgical teams at the hospital.

Centers:

C.A.R.E. Center: The Comprehensive Addiction Resources & Education (C.A.R.E.) Center offers medication-assisted treatment for individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders in a judgement-free zone. Patients are also provided with patient navigation, behavioral health care, and referrals to additional support services. The C.A.R.E. Center accepts all referrals, with or without insurance. University Behavioral Health Care Center: Comprehensive psychiatric programs and services are available for children, adolescents, and adults.
