The Cheryl Ann Kennedy, MD, Endowed Scholarship was established as a lasting tribute to the legacy of Dr. Kennedy, Professor of Psychiatry at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Kennedy was a passionate and gifted educator, a caring clinician, and an expert in trauma, terror medicine and disasters, HIV/AIDS, addiction psychiatry, and violence prevention. She was renowned for her expertise in crisis intervention, psychiatric care of patients with major medical and surgical problems (including the psychiatric aspects of transplant medicine), and hospital care of children and adults.

Dr. Kennedy developed extensive cross-cultural experiences in Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. She worked with the urban communities in Newark for over 30 years serving on the Board of Trustees of Integrity House, a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for 25 years.

Dr. Kennedy was a beloved member of the Department of Psychiatry, a committed advocate for patients, a cherished educator, and an indispensable member of the New Jersey Medical School family.

In celebration and honor of Dr. Kennedy’s eminent career, the Cheryl Ann Kennedy, MD, Endowed Scholarship will support Rutgers New Jersey Medical School students who dream of helping others through a career in medicine based on outstanding academic achievement as well as financial need.
