Research and Scholarly Activity
The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Psychiatry Residency Program is keen on fostering an atmosphere of inquiry, innovation and academic growth through resident research. Trainees are offered a variety of opportunities to cultivate interests across basic science, translational and clinical research and pursue them with faculty support and mentorship. The program encourages individual scholarly projects that can be completed during training and provides administrative support and faculty mentorship for exploring interests and establishing a research focus from design to implementation. Residents are also provided individual research time during didactic days to devote to academic and scholarly projects.
In addition to developing individual research projects, residents are also involved in quality assessment and improvement projects that are in line with ACGME guidelines for increasing proficiency in research methods. Residents receive formal didactic instruction in research methodology and principles and participate in supervised journal club meetings to foster skills for critical consumption of published literature.
Our residents pursue projects across a broad array of interests from basic and translational research to clinical projects, according to their career goals and passions. Trainees have presented research at national and regional conferences and received awards for their work. Residents frequently contribute to book chapters, literature reviews, case reports and poster presentations.
